Nikki n Malaki

Birth day

Sept 27th

Nikki is very special to me. I have spent a lot of time training and working with her. I documented her training the first year "Nikki's Blog"

Nikki has a natural love for water. I started her at just 9 wks old.  Around 4-5 months old, I started training her for water rescue. This was just something fun to do with her. Her friend Hana the brown Newfie belongs to the Newfie Club and they were testing for water rescue. I was "encouraged" to bring her to the test. She was only 6 mos 1 wk old.  Well, everyone could not believe Nikki actually passed the test. Many newfies that really trained did not pass this test! Nikki went above and beyond and was right on cue the whole time. She even made the Newfoundland Newsletter!

Nikki has also passed her CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test and beginner trick title.

Nikki is well mannered, polite when meeting people and children and other dogs. She is very athletic and loves to explore. She does very well off leash and knows some hand signals.

She is an outstanding mom to her own pups as well as anyone else's  pups. She happily helps raise the younger kids that I keep. She is truly amazing but does have a little bit of a stubborn streak.

Nikki's sire is Trigger.  This is a very special bloodline with interesting history.

Malaki is a red agouti woolie

He is 1.6 yrs old

He has a wonderful playful personality that is still developing.

I did actually catch the first tie between these two !

Her due date should be accurate.

Just for fun.

When doing a breeding, the genetics pulls from at least 4 generations. So the pups don't necessarily all look like the parents.

Trigger's mom- Akyla and dad -Uzi

Uzi's Mom - Nukka and dad - Ruger

Rya's mom - Nanook and dad Colt

Nanook's Mom and Dad

Colt came from Oregon and he looked like his mom and dad

Nukka and Akyla came from Alaska

Akyla is identical to her mom TeeKay

Her dad was red, grandfather also red

These are products I use.

Pups will be fully wormed before leaving. We do NOT vaccinate. It will be up to you and your vet to continue care.

PLEASE read our malamute health page so you can make educated decisions for your new pup. Please do not rely only on vets. Our companions rely on us to do what is best.

Pups will be vet checked before leaving.

Nikki Update

I didn't know what to expect with Malaki being a first time stud. Well, I find it interesting. The markings different than what I am used to. So he is mixing up what we produce and I like that. There is a mix in size which is ok. Not everyone wants big or small.

Not sure what to think about the number of pups he produced. He is mature at age 2.

Anyway. Nikki is a fantastic mom and she treats her babies like they are treasures.

10/1/25 update

It has been a long couple days.  Nikki's eating slowed down before birth, which is normal, but she didn't want to eat after they were born. It's been 4 days, and I am just getting her to eat through bribery. Whatever it takes!   She has had an upset stomach for well over a week. This is due to changing hormones.

She is just now, relaxing and getting settled in with the babies.

She is very good at taking care of them. But when it comes to laying on them, they lose all their brain cells. Most moms are like this until they are old enough and strong enough to get out of the way.  Nikki does try, but unfortunately, she did lay on the little boy.

The two remaining girls are big enough and strong enough now, that they should be safe.

I was hoping for a larger litter, but I am happy to have the two. They are very nice.

I look forward to watching them over the next 2 months.

Just a word of warning, they will probably be very spoiled.

leave

Babies are doing great. No concerns at all. Nikki still won't leave them other than to run out and right back in. She does not want them to be handled yet. Hopefully soon, she will start going out more.

New Pictures Below

10/9/25

The girls are doing good. Nikki is STILL struggling. She just doesn't want to eat. I have never had a dog that didn't want to eat, especially a malamute! She is drinking plenty of water which is good. I am able to put some supplements into the water and I do think that is helping.

I am finally getting her to eat a little.  She is eating some boiled chicken and burger with a little organic goat milk. So she is getting the most important calcium and protein.

She did find the strength to dig another massive hole and she actually picked up her ball.  I was happy to see her with her ball, this is a good sign.

10/13/25

Nikki is doing much better now. She is not eating "normal" but she is eating enough daily and her energy is improving. Babie s are just 2 wks old now. It does take 2-3 wks for moms to really start to heal up from the delivery process.

The girls are doing great. Eyes and ears are open, and they are moving around.

They are starting to get their voices.

It is challenging to get pictures at this age, they do not like the light as their eyes are still developing.

First day outside. Thought I would get them started while we have a few warm days. Nikki is happier outside.  She is still not wanting to eat very much. Maybe she will work up more of an appetite outside where she can move around more.

This kennel is on the west side of the house, we also have a hill next to it. This area is pretty well protected and gets full sun so it is warm during the day. They have a heat lamp they can lay under if they get cold.

I will be introducing them to food and water as well.

10/20 3 wks

This is one of our pup kennels. It is 8 ft x 8 ft with secure top. The ground is covered with pavers. I put a type of wood shavings down. It is very fine almost like sawdust. It does stick to their hair, but it is easy to keep clean

They will be started on the Diamond Naturals

Small Breed puppy. The pieces in this are very small and great for starting pups eating a dry food.

They will be started on soft can food with this mixed in and soften to start, then slowly back off the can food when I feel like they are eating good. They will eventually be switched to normal food. This is just to get them started.

Right now, they have pretty good weight to them. I am not concerned about them getting enough from Nikki but she might not has enough as they get older.

They will also start worming.

Lisa  ( Kiya )

Cody

Pictures will improve with natural light and they will start to be more active now.

I kinda missed it, but they were playing with Nikki's tail

Quick video - shows how the red-light effects pictures.

Pups are starting to eat on their own. They ate good last night, and I saw them eating on their own today.

Took out water, they were eager to drink so I am sure the timing of introducing food and water is good.

10/25

Nikki ate pretty good last night. Pups are eating dry food and drinking water on their own now. I am thrilled they took to it so fast. Nikki does have milk but very little so the babies will be good.

Worming has been started.

10/28/25

First bath!

I am finding it challenging to take pictures of them being so black. I can't imagine what people do with litters of lab pups!

The girls have good weight to them and growing fast.

I actually captured them falling asleep :)

First bath, towel snuggles, blow dried and then nap!

Nov 1st

The girls are starting to "wake up".

Until now, they mostly sleep. Now they start a new stage and will be more active. They will be starting to notice toys and people. Not quite playing yet but we are getting closer to playing. AND they found their voices.

11/05/25

The girls are doing great. So far they are pretty mellow and super sweet.

They have a nice size to them as well.

Nikki is still fighting her infection but it is getting better. She has medicated shampoo and stuff to spray on from the vet.

She is still refusing to eat her dog food. I have the girls on Diamond small breed puppy at the moment and Nikki will eat some of that. I always start the pups on that small breed food due to the tiny pieces. I will slowly mix the other food in.

Nikki is eating much better now. She is eating a mix of burger, pork and duck, 1 egg and 1 hot dog. I mix her vitamins and probiotics in with this and a little bit of organic goat milk. She loves it. Can't imagine why she won't eat the dry food?

Well, I feed her at night before I go to bed and give the babies a small hand full and they also love it. They have dry food and water available at all times.

This is what they are getting. It comes in individual frozen patties. Nikki would not touch it raw, but loves it cooked a little !

Their vet appt is scheduled for

Wednesday @1pm  11/12/25

They were, for a brief moment today, clean. The wood shavings is almost like a sawdust, it is very fine and sticks to them!

I was heading out the door to put the pups back in the kennel as it is getting dark. And I need to go take care of the big kids - which is why they are loud in this video lol. They know it is feeding time.

Anyway, I just barely caught this precious moment where Nikki was teaching them to play.

11/13/25

Vet appt went great. They traveled well.

It is about a 3 hour journey for me to take them to the vet. We have dirt roads and curvy highways and they did well.

I am starting to get them used to being without mom. They are PROTESTING! But they will survive.  This effort now will make it much easier on them when they leave.

11/14/25

I took videos and for some strange reason when I upload them, they are really bleached out or all red. So these are screenshots from the videos.

They are doing well. Lisa's girl is quite feisty. Cody's is slightly calmer.

I will mark them as L and C.

The girls play very well together. They play with the toys and play tug o war. They cuddle together too.

L is a little more independent and C is a momma's girl.
